Bamboo isn’t exactly the first thing that springs to mind when one thinks about perfume. It’s a plant that doesn’t emit much of a scent, and certainly not one that embodies the spirit of a label as bold—and in the case of newly minted creative director Alessandro Michele, eccentric—as Gucci. If you take a step back, however, and think about bamboo as a design element, the handles of the house’s signature leather shopper quickly come into view. And if you delve deeper into symbolism, the perennial plant makes perfect sense: It flourishes in almost every climate, is tough enough to withstand hurricane-force winds, and possesses a natural strength comparable to steel. Bamboo is the ideal representation of the Gucci woman. She’s willing to bend, but never breaks; she’s confident enough to march to the beat of her own drum, but still willing to adapt; and she always comes out on top no matter how hard the blow. Hence, the reason the brand named its newest eau after the rather elegant vegetation. “The main question we really concentrated on when developing Gucci Bamboo was ‘What does bamboo look like in the world of Gucci?’ It’s not the green, leafy, grassy stuff that I think some people immediately associate it with,” said P&G Prestige fragrance expert Lewis Peacock. Rich notes like sandalwood, Tahitian vanilla, Casablanca lily, orange blossom, and ylang-ylang were employed to relay a message of sensuality and empowerment.

And who better to personify such a multifaceted perfume than Gal Gadot, the Israeli actress who recently landed the role of Amazonian superhero Wonder Woman in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. She’s also a veteran of the Fast & Furious series, even going so far as to demand that director Justin Lin give her stunts on par with those of her male costars: “I went to Justin, and I was half-joking, but I told him, ‘Listen, if you want me in Fast 6, you better give me some stunts to do!’ And it happened.” Gadot is undoubtedly a woman on a mission who knows how to get the job done and jump seamlessly from a moving motorbike to a speeding Jeep—the toughest stunt she said she’s performed to date. The former model and Miss Israel isn’t your average pageant girl either. She’s a self-proclaimed tomboy who trained soldiers of the opposite sex in the Israeli army; drove a Ducati until she became a mom to daughter Alma (“It’s a whole different ball game—you’ll see,” she told me); paddleboards on the regular; and counts CrossFit and TRX among her go-to workouts. And yes, she has mastered the muscle-up. The only thing, it seems, that she struggles with is nailing the perfect cat-eye: “I’m still trying to figure out how to put on eyeliner properly—I’m still working on that.” She does, however, have her skincare routine down pat, relying on a steady supply of Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream, La Mer The Cleansing Oil, and a bespoke moisturizer crafted by a one-named wonder in her home country known simply as Giselle.

In the video campaign directed by Fabien Baron and lensed by Mert & Marcus, Gadot’s skills are put to the test yet again. Her 12 years as a dancer pay off as she moves effortlessly across a ballroom floor. Her military service came in handy when asked to wield a fencing sword, though she admits she handed that job over to a professional after performing a low lunge in heels and leather pants proved to be quite the challenge. And she even plays the piano naked (as one does when your core is toned from finding your balance on a board in the middle of the ocean). “I’m very open-minded to all genres, but I really want to portray a strong, independent woman,” said Gadot of her dream role. “When you go to the movies, [it’s always] the heartbroken girl who’s waiting to be saved by a guy. In real life, that’s not the way it is!” Fast-forward to being the face of Gucci Bamboo and Wonder Woman, and the actress appears to have it all. Asked if her daughter has a favorite superhero, Gadot replied, “If Elsa from Frozen is a superhero, then yes.” This mom might not be able to manipulate snow and ice, but she’s got no shortage of power. And as far as wardrobe is concerned, let’s just say Queen Elsa didn’t rule her world wearing Gucci.

You have to appreciate accidentally breaking news. Deadline ran a report about actress Gal Gadot is in talks for a film called Keeping Up With The Jonesthat stars Zach Galifianakis, Isla Fisher andJon Hamm. Then to add depth to the story, they mention her three upcoming films Criminals, Triple Nine and Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justiceand the fact that she will begin shooting the Wonder Woman movie in the fall.

Starting to film in the fall seems a little early, but it falls in line with Batman v Superman which started shooting two years ahead of it’s released date.

Superbad/Paul director Greg Mottola has been busy putting together the pieces for his latest comedy, Keeping Up With The Joneses, since at least last March. With Jon Hamm, Zach Galifianakis and Isla Fisher all aboard, he wants to add Gal Gadot to the list.

Mottola’s film, written by written by Michael LeSieur, finds a settled yet bored couple discovering that their new suburban neighbours might be more than they appear on first glimpse. Could they be criminals? Or spies? Or both? Or neither? Or something else entirely? Are we trapped asking questions at this point? Possibly?

Not much is known about the roles the various actors will play yet, though we’re guessing at Galifianakis and Fisher as the first couple, with Hamm and Gadot as the second. That, of course, assumes that Gadot’s talks work out – she’s got a busy schedule with her Wonder Woman duties and other films, so she needs to make sure there are no clashes. Mottola starts the cameras cranking on the comedy this April in Atlanta, while the Wonder Woman stand-alone film has just been scheduled to shoot in the autumn.

Gadot will appear as the Amazonian warrior in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, which is finally set to arrive here on March 25 next year. She’ll also be seen in Criminal and John Hillcoat’s Triple Nine, which is out on September 11.

Jess / February 18th, 2015   Articles & Interviews

Gal Gadot was tight-lipped about her iconic superhero role when she spoke to FOX411 at the Times of Israel Gala on Sunday evening. “I wish I could [share details] but unfortunately I can’t,” Gadot said with a smile, adding that all information about the role was being kept under wraps. The Israeli-born model-turned-actress said “of course” she plans on doing more acting work in America. “I love what I do,” she said simply.

Gadot was honored for her work in film at the gala, which celebrated the “Best of Israel.” “I’m very honored to be here,” she told us. “I am very thrilled to be back in New York and I am very, very grateful to be around these people.” Other honorees included Former Israeli President Shimon Peres and Israeli singer Miri Mesika. Gadot said for her, the highlight of the evening would be sitting at the same table as Peres.

Despite single-digit temperatures a handful of protesters gathered outside the event in New York City and chanted “Free free Palestine,” calling Israel “murderers.” Gadot shared her take on the controversy that often surrounds her home country. “The thing with me is that I really wish that everything will work out and that people will be able to live together peacefully, in harmony… Not just in Israel but all over the world.”

Once inside the gala, which was attended by about 800 people, Gadot was surrounded by other famous faces like supermodel Bar Refaeli and Professor Alan Dershowitz.

For the most part DC’s cinematic universe hasn’t had to deviate from the classic origins of its characters. How many times have we seen Bruce Wayne’s parent’s gunned down and baby Superman fleeing a destroyed Krypton? But Wonder Woman’s origins are far more complicated.

Originally Wonder Woman was molded out of clay (!) and brought to life by the Greek deities and raised by the Amazon sisterhood. This origin stuck up until a 2010 reboot of the character that saw her origins more along the lines of Superman’s – having been sent to New York as a baby when her Paradise Island home was destroyed.

In 2011 the entire DC comic book universe got a reboot in the fashion of The New 52. And it is these origins that the producer for the Wonder Woman film, Charles Roven, has confirmed Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman will adhere to.

In The New 52, Wonder Woman is the relatively more naturally born daughter of Zeus and Amazon Queen Hippolyta. Of course Zeus’ wife, Hera doesn’t take too kindly to this fact and it ends up causing all sorts of problems for her and her Amazon sisters.

While there is strong feminist support for her original birth – which required no male involvement whatsoever – there’s something cinematic and relatable to a superhero with a more conflicted background. It may not be purist to have a Wonder Woman with daddy issues but there is something empowering in the way she overcomes them, even if it does mirror the origin of Hercules perhaps too closely.

The New 52 origins also does away with that implicitly non-cinematic invisible plane. Here she is given the power of flight with a little help from her friend Hermes – we’ll see if this will be a development that the film takes advantage of as well.

What about those cuffs? Previously they were a pair of nice bullet (or any other thing) proof bracelets but now the cuffs are the one item that actually keep her God-like powers in check. Take them off and it is bad news for whatever foe is up in her grill.

And speaking of foes? While we may not see them in Batman vs Superman, what does Wonder Woman’s rouges gallery look like? Well, Wonder Woman, in her own way, is a bit like a female version of Thor.

Replace the Norse mythology with Greek mythology and you have an idea of the friends and foes that surround her. So you have the likes of Hades, Poseidon and Apollo regularly showing up to try and dethrone Wonder Woman along with troublemakers like the appropriately named Nemesis and Minotaur.

So there are a lot of different choices and angles the film could take in establishing Wonder Woman’s world. It’s a rich history with a deep lineup of colorful characters to choose from.
