We’ve got word as to who may actually direct the movie: Breaking Bad executive-producer/director Michelle MacLaren. Variety reports that MacLaren is “in talks” to take on the Wonder Woman film, which Charles Roven will produce for a June 23, 2017, release.

Little is known about the plot of the Wonder Woman movie, though the character will first appear in Dawn of Justice when it hits in March 2016.

MacLaren can be considered Breaking Bad’s “main” director. As our own Eric Goldman points out, she helmed 11 of the show’s 62 episodes — more than any other director. She was eventually made an executive producer on the show and oversaw the editing with Vince Gilligan on the entire final season. The third season episode “One Minute” in particular brought her to the attention of many fans. She’s also directed four episodes of Game of Thrones, three for The Walking Dead, and a bunch for other series (including an X-Files, which she also was a producer for!), but Wonder Woman will mark her big-screen helming debut if she signs on with the studio.

Warner Bros. have already made an offer to a female director for the Wonder Woman movie, we just don’t know who…

The Wonder Woman movie is going to be here on June 23rd, 2017. It has a star in Gal Gadot. It may or may not have a writer. If it does, they’re keeping him or her quiet. And it certainly doesn’t have a director…yet.

We know that Warner Bros. is looking to find the right woman to direct the debut cinematic outing of one of DC’s most important characters. We can cross one name off that list: Punisher: War Zone director Lexi Alexander. “I can’t say they wouldn’t consider me, but they haven’t reached out,” she told Forbes. But Ms. Alexander did say that Warner Bros. have made an offer to somebody (she doesn’t say who), and “If she says yes, everybody will be very happy, including me.”

She expressed some caution, though, about attaching a female director to a movie like Wonder Woman, which comes with all manner of marketing and studio considerations and expectations. “How many male superhero movies fail? So now, we finally get Wonder Woman with a female director, imagine if it fails,” she told Fast Company. “And you have no control over marketing, over budget. So without any control, you carry the fucking weight of gender equality for both characters and women directors. No way.”

Both of those interviews with Lexi Alexander that we linked up above are well worth reading, by the way.

Anyone want to place their bets on Kathryn Bigelow as Wonder Woman director?

We have  added a scan from Total Film October 2014 that features Gal as Wonder Woman. Total Film published an article called “The Dawn of DC” about the heroes of the DC universe, and brought an analytical study of the roles that each of these characters could play in the superhero team which will be presented to us in the Justice League movie. Also more filming took place this weekend in Chicago’s Loop as will be closed for filming. We are not sure if Gal will be there but do send in any photos if she is!

Looks like the eagerly-awaited first trailer of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will be revealed in December, 2014.

“The overt hint I got from these folks is that the teaser will be revealed this Fall along with a November or December film release. I have no idea to which specific film it may be ‘attached,’ but New Line’s (which is Warner Bros.’ sister company) The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies is being released on December 17, 2014,” states the website.

Gal Gadot will star following her debut as the Princess Diana of Themyscira in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but new reports have suggested it will be a drastically different kind of film.

Dawn of Justice is set in the modern day, but according to Bleeding Cool, the first Wonder Woman movie will be set partly on Themyscira, also called as Paradise Island – the home of Wonder Woman and her Amazonian kin – and partly in the 1920s.

“I have been informed by those who have seen the greenlit treatment that the film will spends the first half on Paradise Island [Themyscira] with warring Amazon factions vying for control,” reads their report. “An arrival of a man on the island changes that status quo, as he asks the Amazons for help. Not necessarily Steve Trevor either…

“When Wonder Woman joins him on his return to the world of Man, we all discover that it is the 1920s. And the film will then show Diana exploring that world – a world where women have only just got the vote – from her unique perspective.”

The report also says that a second Wonder Woman movie would jump ahead a couple of decades to World War 2. Wonder Woman versus Nazis? I’m game.

The assumption was that Wonder Woman’s films would follow on from Batman v Superman in the present day. But a prequel series allows Warner Bros and DC to enrich the cohesive universe they are building, which will be highlighted with two Justice League movies in 2017 and 2019, and stay true to Wonder Woman’s origins in the comic universe.

Wonder Woman will be the first solo DC superhero adventure following Batman v Superman, and will be followed by outings for Aquaman, The Flash, Green Lantern, Cyborg and DC’s Captain Marvel, in Shazam!. Batman and Superman solo movies have also been confirmed, but do not have any release date.

Wonder Woman will be released on 23 June 2017.

The Israeli actress’ commitment to playing Wonder Woman proved to be a scheduling conflict

Gal Gadot’s commitment to Wonder Woman has forced her to pass on Timur Bekmambetov‘s remake of “Ben-Hur,” which is being mounted by Paramount and MGM, TheWrap has learned.

Neither studio immediately responded to a request for comment.

Jack Huston stars in “Ben-Hur” as the titular Jewish prince who is forced into slavery by his former friend Messala, who will be played by Toby Kebbell. Morgan Freeman co-stars in the film, which will employ today’s cutting-edge technology to reimagine the original film’s classic chariot race.

Two weeks ago, Gadot was reported to be in negotiations for the female lead of Esther, Ben-Hur’s true love. Those negotiations have ended and Gadot has passed on the project due to a scheduling conflict stemming from her commitment to WB’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and all that playing Wonder Woman entails, an individual close to the actress told TheWrap.

Keith Clarke and John Ridley wrote the script, which is based on Lew Wallace’s 1880 novel “Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ.”

Mark Burnett is producing with Sean Daniel and Joni Levin, while Roma Downey is executive producing with Clarke, Ridley and Jason Brown. Production will begin early next year in Europe in advance of a February 2016 release.

While Gadot was able to fit supporting roles in the indie movies “Triple Nine” and “Criminal” into her busy schedule, “Ben-Hur” is a much longer shoot that Gadot couldn’t accommodate. She’ll remain focused on Wonder Woman, who is getting her own solo movie in 2017 — the same year the beloved character will appear in Zack Snyder‘s “Justice League: Part One.”

Gadot is repped by ICM Partners, Untitled Entertainment, Israel’s ADD Agency and Felker Toczek.
